Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to sign Bill's Birthday Book for 2006. Your wishes and greetings mean a lot!

I worked as a singing drummer in Vancouver for 16 yrs. Bill was my mentor. We talked at my gigs and his many times over the years. In 1982 at the Spinning Wheel club I had the pleasure of driving Billy and Bruce Coburn home after all of us caught Spencer Davis's local gig. I condider Billy on of the most sincere and talented performers I've ever had the pleasure to witness. He had something very speacial.

Happy very belated birthday to you, Bill..I so much remember french class and how you used to talk about your nite-lite studies! I'm very honored to have been able to have known you before the fame and live through that time in all our lives when your family was the talk of the nation. I sort of lost track of you but I'm glad Susan has had such great success with the web site. I'm very sorry to hear about Barry. I know that while you all have closure, it doesn't dull the heartache any less. I don't have birthday's anymore, just annivesary's of being 39, again!!!!. Thanks for the great music you and your family gave us. Now I have children almost grown about the age we were when you were making music. As my mother's best friend from New Orleans says, it isn't fun growing up. I just had to give my daughter that hated blue jeans until her last year in college how to zip them up when she has a problem getting into them. No more trips down memory lane. Under the tragic circumstances I hope you were able to have a Happy Birthday. Our church gathered in prayers for your family last Sunday in memory of Barry. My memories of Barry were a long time ago in North Bergen, N.J. followed by the Ed Sullivan Show and 888 8th Ave. In any case, my birthday is tomorrow the 16th and I'll toast the two of us and the celebration of Barry's life. Billy, best wishes for your birthday and for a happy and healthy New Year. I can relate to your hip problems - back in July 2004, I had both hips replaced on the same day. I'm doing great and hope you are too, now. Also, so sorry and sad to hear about Barry. He's greatly missed.

Although this is a sad time for you and your family I send my wishes for you to have a healthy and happy "new" year! Barry really admired and respected you. Remember him singing to you at the first TORI in 2000? It was a great moment. I am so sorry for the loss of Barry. He leaves a big hole wherever he had been. I will miss him so much. Happy belated birthday and the best to you, in health and happiness all year.

When I was a young person with an eye for the stage, wanting to play music, to write good songs and to leave an audience happy if I ever found myself in a band, you were quite an inspiration to me. I favored your original songs on the old Cowsills lp's and I listened to them over and over. Your vocal work on those records is something that still amazes me, something that helped heal me when I fell into bad times, and something I still make sure my musician friends get to listen to, such as "Yesterday's Girl", for example, which is one of the finest vocal recordings of the 60's. You and Bob worked pure magic on how you arranged your vocal duets and then added parts for the younger Cowsills. No easy task, I'm sure.

When I got to see you lead the group in person, and you were the clear leader at a concert, I recall closely watching your interaction with Bob and just thinking what great people you are, and I noticed how quickly the audience' appreciation of you and your younger siblings turned into just plain loving you guys... and actually, we all still do. It is plain to see and hear that your post-"Cowsills" Billy Cowsill solo and band work were equally done from the heart, and that's what it's all about. Thank Goodness for you Billy, and for knowing that, no matter where we are, where we're from, or where we've gone, we can all still enjoy a stroll back and forth across that bridge that leads from heart to heart. - Sincerely JV

Birthday Blast from the past
Don't know if you'll remember this or not, but we partied together at Cowesett Hills apartments in Warwick back in the mid 70's and you were playing live dates at this dive called "The Office" a small bar on Post Road next to the 7-11. I have since married, and moved to the Seattle area and have an 11 year old son Matthew.
My nickname at the time was "Jap" and my sister Megan was in a play with your sister Susan at Winman Junior High School.
Foggy as those days were at the time, I recall you playing guitar almost all night long at Big Al's apartment.
Hope you had an okay birthday and my deepest condolences on the loss of your brother.

Received the new Co-Dependents CD and as always it is absolutely fantastic. Any chance you are busy composing some new material, I love all your originals. I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday, although I'm sure this is a tough one for you. I hope you spent the day with people you care about, doing something that brought you joy.

I also wanted to tell you something that I'm sure you know, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to remind you - Barry loved and respected you so much.. to the point of idolizing you. Even when he'd pregnant dog about you bugging him to do something he really didn't want to do, he loved you. He talked a lot about the two of you playing and traveling in the 70's. And there was always a kind of reverence in his voice when he spoke of you. He really did adore you.

And finally, I want you to know how much you mean to me, and indeed to countless others. Your gift of music has given so much joy to so many, and my first musical education was from you - listening to your voice, your arrangements of harmonies... When I grew up from the little girl who was in love with Barry, I realized that you were the one who made the Cowsills so special. And when in the '80s I came to meet you in Vancouver, you were so sweet and kind to me... spending time when you really didn't have to. I appreciated that so much. And through the years, whenever our paths would cross, you were so amazingly patient and generous. Thank you so much for all you have done and given me. Thank you for the music and the inspiration. Thank you for being Bill.

Don't remember you. I was stuck between Barry and John. Barry, John, Barry, John. I embroidered patches for my jeans with Barry and John's names. You guys were my first teenie crush group.

And my heart goes out to you. I lost my own brother some 18 years ago.

Hearing about your brother brought back many memories from high school...Do you remember trying to teach three girls how to sing a song for the CYO Minstrel Show at St. Lucy's? We were really bad, but you never gave up. So sorry to hear about your health. Ironically i became a R.N. working in surgery. Have a happy birthday, and my condolences on your loss.

Happy 39th Birthday
Since I pasted 39 I have anniversaries of it. For awhile my children didn't catch on. To bad they had to grow up and say those charming things I use to say to my own folks. You know the ones, "Gee Mom, you're getting old, I don't think I'll ever get there." you think to yourself, I didn't plan to get there either. yet you don't know what you were going to do. So what I'll say is Happy Birthday and enjoy it!!! It beats the alternative and you have that much more time to take your turn at driving your family, friends and children in and around you nuts. But what I can tell you is my mother's best friend summed it up a few years ago. It is hell getting old!! but it beats the alternative and I myself think each stage of our lives is something wonderful to experience. Have a great year and we'll meet back here again next year. 

Went to a neighbor's house last night and his son's, about 10 and 12, were both playing guitars and a 3rd was on the drums in one of their bedrooms. I looked in and it reminded me of you guys when you were learning to play and sing. When asked if they knew "You're Cheating Heart" and they just looked at me. Anyway, it made me think of you and all good times we used to have.

I know it sounds hollow & a little heartless to wish you a "Happy Birthday" when you are grieving. I do pray that you have a peaceful celebration of life & take time to share your happy memories with your loved ones. My dear husband passed away last June just 13 days before my birthday & while I tried to put up a brave front for everyone else, I really didn't have the will to celebrate because I missed him so very much & I was still so stunned. I had lost sight of you & your family for many years but I am so happy that I have located your websites. You & your family brought me many, many hours of blissful refuge with your sweet voices. Happy Birthday Bill! I just found this great website tonight, and have been very busy catching up with all the info and reading all the news on everyone. So sorry to read that you've been ill, and my heart and well wishes goes out to you for a full and complete recovery from your ailments. I was a member of the Cowsills fan club back in the last 60's. I was only about 9 or 10 years old back then...bought your records and still have them to this day, and am facing my own 48th birthday next month. I still love you guys and still hear your music on the Philadelphia radio oldies station, (and I remember all the words too). I was greatly saddened to read of Barry's death, and I'm sure that will overshadow your birthday this year. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.
